Personal Training in Allison Park & Pittsburgh's North Hills: Costs, Options, and How to Choose

By Devin Smith, NCSF-CPT · Precision Nutrition L1 · Updated August 2026

If you've started looking for a personal trainer around Allison Park, Wexford, Gibsonia, or anywhere in Pittsburgh's North Hills, you've probably noticed two things: nobody lists prices, and everybody promises the same transformation. This guide fixes the first problem and gives you a framework for seeing through the second. I'm a coach in this market, so I'll disclose my own numbers too — judge for yourself.

What personal training actually costs around Pittsburgh

Broadly, you'll find three models in the North Hills:

My own pricing, for full transparency: remote coaching from $89/month, in-person coaching (Pittsburgh area) from $410/month for weekly coached sessions with full app-based programming between them, and a $49 one-time 14-Day Jumpstart that exists specifically so you can evaluate the coaching before committing to a month.

Sessions vs. coaching: the distinction that matters more than price

A session is an hour. Coaching is a system. The difference shows up on the other 165 hours of your week.

Session-based training answers "what am I doing today?" Coaching answers "what am I doing for the next twelve weeks, why, what happens when my knee complains, and who's adjusting the plan when life interferes?" If you only train when a trainer is standing next to you, you're renting supervision. If your program progresses whether or not anyone is watching — and someone reviews the data — you're buying a result.

Neither is wrong. But they cost about the same per month, and only one of them compounds.

Five questions that expose a trainer in two minutes

  1. "Can I see the program from my third week?" If there's no written program — just vibes and variety — progression isn't happening, and progression is the entire mechanism of results.
  2. "How do you handle an old shoulder injury?" The wrong answers are "we'll push through it" and "we'll just avoid upper body." The right answer involves modifying angle, range, and load while keeping the training stimulus.
  3. "What happens between sessions?" If the answer is "nothing," you're buying hours, not outcomes.
  4. "How do you track progress?" Accept: logged lifts, retested baselines, measurements. Reject: "you'll feel it."
  5. "Who do you turn away?" A trainer with no wrong-fit clients is a trainer optimizing for volume. (My honest answer: people hunting a 30-day transformation, and anyone who wants entertainment instead of progression.)

In-person, remote, or hybrid — who each is actually for

In-person earns its price when you need form coached in real time — beginners, anyone managing pain, and lifters chasing technique-limited lifts. I coach in-person clients in the Pittsburgh area with app-based programming between sessions, so the week doesn't disappear between appointments.

Remote works better than most people expect for self-starters: your program, logging, check-ins, and form review by video run through the app; the coaching decisions stay human. It's also the only sane option if your schedule is chaos.

Hybrid — occasional in-person technique work on top of remote programming — is quietly the best value for most experienced lifters in the area.

The bottom line for North Hills lifters

Expect to pay roughly $300–$700/month for legitimate, programmed, session-based training — or $89–$250/month for coaching if you don't need a human standing beside every rep. Anything cheaper is usually an hour of improvisation; anything pricier should come with a very specific answer to "why."

And whatever you choose, choose based on the program, not the pep talk.
